Novotel is one of a number of mid-scale hotel chains owned by the French hotel group Accor. Novotel currently has hotels and resorts throughout the world, with each one strategically located at the heart of major international cities from business districts to the hottest tourist spots. Novotel opened its first hotel in 1967. It had 62 rooms, each 25 square meters in size and all have similar design with air-conditioning, private bathrooms, a television and telephone, along with meeting facilities, a swimming pool and private parking.

As of 2009, Novotel has built 395 hotels in 60 countries with a total of 71,872 rooms and employs a workforce of more than 30,000. Novotel has 266 hotels in 23 countries across Europe; 51 hotels in Asia spanning 11 nations; 34 hotels in the Pacific in five countries; seven hotels in North America; 19 hotels in South America; 13 hotels in ten countries in Africa; five hotels in three countries in the Middle East; and 26 hotels down under in Australia. From its humble beginnings, Novotel has evolved to become one of the largest hotel chains in the world and the brand has been widely recognized for providing contemporary experience coupled with quality service. Novotel hotels still feature a 25 square meter bedroom, plus an array of deluxe amenities that include restaurant and bar, meeting facilities, swimming pools, fitness rooms green spaces and internet access.
