The new Jeep Compass is a compact SUV that comes in Sport and Limited trim levels. The Compass Sport includes standard equipments such as fog lamps, roof rails, 17-inch alloy wheels, a tilt steering wheel and a four-speaker stereo with a CD player. The Limited has added perks such keyless entry, cruise control, full power accessories, reclining rear seats, stain-repellent upholstery, heated front seats, 18-inch alloy wheels, satellite radio and an in-dash six-CD changer.
All Jeep Compass are equipped with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine which generates 172 hp and 165 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual transmission is standard, while a CVT is optional. Fuel economy with the 4WD and the automatic is 21 mpg city and 24 mpg on the highway. These improve by a couple of mpg when driving the manual.
The new interior design of the Compass features smoother surfaces and less plastic materials. The Compass provides a number of handy storage slots. It is also quite easy to fold the rear seat flat, while the front-passenger seat has fold-flat capability (this feature is standard in the Limited and optional in the Sport) which enables longer items to be loaded into the cabin.
Standard safety features include full-length side curtain airbags, stability control with a rollover sensor, and traction control. In terms of driving, the ride is fairly comfortable and it is more enjoyable to roll around town as its direct steering, compact dimensions and huge wheels make it more maneuverable.
