Though it may seem that caring for an indoor plant is hard, it is really not and is actually quite simple. Your time and effort in caring for your indoor plants will surely pay off once you’ve seen how beautiful and blooming they are that they can relieve the everyday stress you feel.
So how do you care for your indoor plants? Here are some indoor plant care tips.
Soil
Remember that all kinds of indoor plants need well-draining, nutrient-rich soil, enough light and water, enough humidity, fertilizer and occasional grooming. Settling for a soil straight from your yard is not good, make certain that you mix it with a little peat moss for good drainage. You can also put some sand if your soil is heavy clay.
Aside from the soil, choosing the correct size pot for your indoor plant is also important. Pick one that has sufficient room for the soil and the plant’s root. All plants will soon become too big for the pot that it has to be potted. When you change pots, keep in mind that you should stop putting fertilizers for a few weeks and instead give your houseplants some vitamin B1 to protect it from transplant shock.
Light
In order for an indoor plant to be healthy, proper lighting is a necessity. Light serves as the energy source of your plant. Putting your plant in a dark place will mean its death. Too much light exposure may also make your indoor plant unhealthy.
The best thing you should do is research how much light does your plant like. If you live in a home that does not have natural light coming in, your best bet would be to use artificial lighting like fluorescent lamps and special bulbs as the energy source of your plant.
Water
Indoor plants do not like soils that are saturated so be very careful not to overwater your indoor plants. Saturated soils do not let oxygen to get in causing the roots of your indoor plant to rot. Roots that are rotten can lead to your plant’s death.
