Alloy Wheels

by jyoti

Alloy wheels refer to wheels that have been cast from an aluminum mixture. Manufacturers prefer aluminum because it is light and dissipates heat more efficiently compared to other metals. The reduction in the vehicle’s weight when the alloy wheels are mounted means that there is also a substantial reduction in the rotating mass on the end of the suspension components thereby providing better steering and improved breaking response.

Among car experts, alloy wheels do a lot more than merely improving driving performance, they also serve an aesthetic purpose. Most alloy wheels feature glossy and elaborate styling, thereby bestowing any vehicle a sleek look. Alloy wheels are available in two basic types; casted and forged. Forged alloy wheels are much lighter and stronger than their casted counterparts. However, they are more expensive and sought after by sport or luxury car owners and enthusiasts.

There are numerous alloy wheel manufacturers and dealers out there, along with throngs of polishers and cleaners. You’ll notice this as you shop around and you will also realize that there are a large variety of designs, sizes and colours to choose from. The rule of thumb is that the larger the alloy wheels and the lower the profile of the tyres, the sweeter they look on your car. However, always bear in mind that personal safety and the safety of other motorists comes first when buying alloy wheels, so choose wisely.
